Aztec Ruins New Mexico

The Kiva

Around 1100 AD ancestral Pueblo Indians embarked on an ambitious building project along the Animas River in New Mexico. In less than three decades they built a monumental "Great House". Aztec West stands three stories high and stretches longer than a football field and once had as many as five hundred rooms including a ceremonial Kiva over forty feet in diameter.
